These three articles are must reading. All are from
LewRockwell.com.
"Slipped His
Moorings" by Charley Reese. Charley says there is no real war on
terrorism — and Harry Browne says the same thing.
"Bush's
Deadly Dance with Islamo-Facsists" by Tom Engelhardt. How George Bush
has been playing footsie with the very elements he claims to be opposing.
And those elements might be labeled "fire."
"Political
Islam vs. Democracy:
The Bush Administration's Deadly Waltz with Shiite Theocrats in Iraq and
Muslim Brotherhood Fanatics in Syria, Egypt, and Elsewhere"
by Robert Dreyfuss.
More details of how the Bush administration, and others before it, have been
aligning itself with, and supporting, some of the worst elements in the
Middle East. And why there isn't an Asian-American's chance in hell of
bringing democracy to the Middle East. (This article is on the same webpage
as the article above.)
November 12, 2005
"The Case against
this Monstrous War" by Thomas E. Woods, Jr.,
LewRockwell.com — a review of
two must-read books:
Neoconned and
Neoconned Again. Read the review and then get the two books; it's
only $36.90 for the two of them. And once you've read them, no one will ever
again be able to corner you with a stupid argument in favor of "Middle East
Democracy" or how we're fighting terrorism in the world.
"A Name
that Lives in Infamy" — the UK Guardian. A summary of what the
U.S. military did to the city of Fallujah. As the Guardian says, "The
destruction of Falluja was an act of barbarism that ranks alongside My Lai,
Guernica and Halabja."
The Second Civil War — A hilariously funny movie about an Idaho
governor who wants his state to secede from the United States in a dispute
over immigration. Phil Hartmann plays the president and Beau Bridges is the
governor. This is one of the most anti-government movies I've ever seen. The
link is to Amazon's page of the movie on DVD. It is also available from
Amazon on
VHS.
The Americanization of Emily — The best anti-war movie I've ever seen.
It ends with a tantalizing moral dilemma that usually evokes debates among
libertarians. It also is a very entertaining movie, so don't get it just for
its message.
November 5, 2005
The Arkansas Libertarian Party needs help
getting official party status in the state.
War Made Easy by Norman Solomon — an excellent book showing how U.S.
presidents have lied us into so many violent conflicts since World War II.
Solomon explains the many tactics used: Our leaders are trying to avoid war,
this is about human rights, America is always on the side of virtue,
opposing the war is anti-American or siding with the enemy, and many more.
A funny picture,
if not real, that you might enjoy. Sent to me by Bradley Newman.
The House of Truth — James
Seed's website. Take a look and decide for yourself.
Alito
And Government by Donna Cassata, Associated Press. Throughout his
judicial career, Judge Samuel Alito's judicial decisions have tended to side
with government against individual or corporate rights. As such he appears
to be an even worse choice than the mediocre bunch on the Supreme Court now.
Vermont secession — The Arctic Beacon. At a meeting in
Montpelier, citizens of Vermont register their discontent with the federal
government and their desire to make Vermont an independent nation.
It is also available from
Amazon on
VHS.

not paying the tax.

innocent prisoners, at Bagram Prison in Afghanistan. Remember that we were

steamroll over people providing services in the free market.
Those

Saving the
environment from political destruction — from The Great Libertarian
Offer.
The federal government is the nation's biggest polluter. And most
private pollution takes place on government property. If we
want to make the environment more pristine, we need to repeal laws, not pass
them.
Love Canal: The Truth
Seeps Out by Eric Zuesse, Reason Magazine, February 1981
This scandal of the late 1970s is the quintessential example of how a
private company did everything right, a government agency did everything
wrong, and so the private company received all the blame when the
consequences of the government's actions surfaced. It's also an example of
how sloppy most reporting is, and how a lone reporter easily discovered far
more truth than all the news agencies combined.

A 23-year-old college student received three life sentences without hope of

sentences deal with crime in America.
Foreigners now hold 24% of the total federal debt. Since they don't act in
unison, I don't regard as likely the possibility (often raised by "experts")
that the foreigners will suddenly dump their U.S. federal debt and cause
chaos in this country. However, the percentage of foreign ownership has
risen in recent years, and the situation could become perilous in the
future. The latest figures are available from the St. Louis Federal Reserve
Bank:

debt: $7.131 trillion
Foreign
holdings: $1.708 trillion

What the
Martha Stewart Case Means to You by Harry Browne
Do government employees lie?
If Martha Stewart did lie to a government attorney (and we don't know that
she did), or if she lied when she said she was innocent (and we don't know
that she did), her lie was nothing compared to the lies told by politicians
and prosecutors. Here's a heart-breaking example of how government
prosecutors lied in order to put an innocent man in prison for life without
hope of parole. Why? Because that particular conviction was sorely needed to
balance the prosecutor's conviction record.

Drug sales before
the Drug War — University of Buffalo
Labels of products sold legally a hundred years ago — products containing
cocaine, heroin, and other drugs now banned. These drugs were far safer than
those sold by street vendors today, because the reputations of large
companies depended on the drugs being safe. This is a very enlightening
website.

A
Basic History of the United States by Clarence B. Carson
This is a 5-volume history of the U.S. from the early colonial days through
1985. The series provides an excellent overview of American history. Most of
the history seems to be viewed through libertarian eyes, although the author
has a very strong, conservative, anti-communist slant in the final volume.
Unfortunately, the entire set is now out of print, although you may be able
to find some of the volumes through a used-book dealer. Amazon.com has other
histories by Carson, as well audio cassettes of some of the volumes in the
Basic History series. The link above is to Amazon's search page. Enter
'Clarence B. Carson' in the Author field and click on "Search now." This will bring up a page showing the used copies of Carson's
books that Amazon can get for you. There also are audio cassettes on
that page.
